Jets use big first half to route Omaha Christian Academy

The Sterling Boys basketball team held Omaha Christian Academy to six first half points, breezing past the Eagles 55-21 this past Saturday in Omaha.

Sterling led 13-0 after the first quarter and outscored the Eagles 29-6 in the first half.  The Jets extended their lead to 49-7 after three quarters, outscoring them 20-1 in the third quarter.

The Jet defense caused havoc for Omaha Christian, holding them to three field goals through three quarters.

“I felt our defensive effort was really good, because offensively, we didn’t shoot the ball all that well” said head coach Jimmy Motz.  “We set a tone on the defensive end and made it difficult for them to score.  Offensively, we were good, but not as sharp as I would have liked to be.”

Ten of the 15 Jets who played scored in the contest, led by Zach Lempka’s 12 points.  Connor Malone and Klay Heusman added 10 and 8 points in the winning effort.

“It was a chance to play some guys who haven’t got to play much” said Motz about the win.  “Overall, it was a good win now it’s time to move on.”

The Jets will host 19-2 Freeman Friday night at home.  The varsity game is set for an 8:00pm tip.  Both teams are ranked in their respective classifications.  Freeman was the Class C-2 state runners-up a year ago and currently number one in power points in D-1.

“They are a very good basketball team and well coached” said Motz.  “It should be a fun environment and a capacity crowd.  It’s a big game for both teams.”
