The Polar Express Stops in Sterling
Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011
On Thursday, December 22 the elementary students boarded the Polar Express for a special holiday send off.
The morning began with students, dressed in their pajamas, gathering in the gym for Christmas caroling. Mrs. Renninger and some high school students lead the caroling while the younger students joined in.
Then students and staff all boarded the train and listened while Mr. Theobald read The Polar Express. Students were served hot cocoa and cookies to enjoy as a mid-morning treat.
From there we traveled through blizzard like conditions; through wilderness and over mountains, to join Santa at the North Pole as we watched The Polar Express movie. Thereβs nothing like watching a movie on a big screen, while lying on your favorite pillow and holding on to your favorite stuffed animal. The children had plenty of room to enjoy as they had the whole gym floor.
Wrapping up the morningβ¦SANTA! Students and staff received a great surprise as they filed out of the gym. Santa stopped by to make sure children were being good and to give them a candy cane treat.

This magical morning was a combined staff effort and would not have been what it was without all of us working together to give students a great beginning to their holiday break. Thanks to all of the elementary teachers, the kitchen staff for making the cocoa and letting us invade the cafeteria, Mr. Theobald for reading the story, Mrs. Wirthele for chipping in on buying supplies and helping to make all the cookies, Mrs. Renninger and her high school students for leading us in Christmas carols and moving the heavy piano (thank you Mr. Logston).
