The Fourth Graders have had an exciting month. On the 13th of March they were able to visit the Capitol and have a very interesting tour.

We were also able to visit the Legislature in session. We were able to have our picture taken with Senator Heidemann.

In the afternoon we went to the Shrine Circus and had a great time watching all the acts that were preformed there.

On Friday, March 14th, Mr. Doug Mahoney visited our room and explained how to use palm pilots. We had a lot of fun using them just for fun. We also found many ways they could be used for practice in our classroom.

Our math curriculum has been dealing with fractions. We have learned a great deal about fractions, such as changing improper fractions to mixed forms, and mixed forms to improper fractions. We are also writing equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, adding and subtracting fractions with like and unlike denominators. We found this very interesting and fun. We look forward to working with decimals and comparative fractions.

We continue reading silently for 15 minutes a day. With each 50 pages we read, we get our name in a drawing for a free book at the end of the month. This has encouraged the students to do more reading. We especially look forward to “buddy” reading with the second graders. Each 4th grader is assigned a 2’” grader to read with.

Second semester was our beginning for Nebraska study. We are learning much about the history of Nebraska and what hardships pioneers went through to make it such a great state. We seem to find this more interesting than the study of the United States. One of the projects that we will be doing is making a paper quilt depicting Nebraska’s state flower, state bird, state rock and important points of history.

Thanks to the parents who helped make our year so successful. Your involvement makes it much easier for your student and for me.
