COOK - Sterling’s Jets blew things open with a big second quarter
on their way to a 66-44 win over Lincoln Parkview Christian in D2-1
Subdistrict action Tuesday at Cook.
With the win, the Jets advance to face Falls City Sacred Heart, a
55-21 winner over Lewiston, in the subdistrict final at 7 p.m.
Thursday.
“We
busted the game open in the second quarter, when we scored 28
(points),” Sterling coach Jimmy Motz said. Motz said the
Jets’ offense was sparked in the first half by Jacob Wirthele’s
four three-pointers. From there, solid defense allowed the
Jets to extend their lead through the third quarter and into the
fourth, Motz said.
“Overall it was just a good team performance,” Motz said.
The Jets led by 14 points at halftime after outscoring Parkview
Christian 11-8 in the first quarter and 28-17 in the second.
Sterling led the scoring 18-3 in the third quarter before being
outscored 16-9 in the fourth quarter.
Zach Lempka led Sterling in scoring with 20 points, followed by
Jacob Wirthele with 16 and Jesse Salberg with 10.
Parkview Christian’s leading scorers were Jordan Tyrance with 18
points and Philip Randall with 13.
