D2-1 Subdistrict -- Sterling Jets VS FCSH
COOK - A strong second quarter for Falls City Sacred Heart was the difference as they defeated Sterling’s Jets 62-48 in the Class D2-1 Subdistrict final at Cook Thursday.
“In the second quarter, we hit a snag,” Sterling coach Jimmy Motz said.
Motz said the Jets had some turnovers and Sacred Heart went on a 12-0 run during the second quarter Thursday which provided some separation.
“We played hard, gave them everything they wanted. We just couldn’t get over the hump,” Motz said.
Motz said against a team like Sacred Heart it’s important to take advantage of every opportunity “and we didn’t.”
The Jets trailed by two points, 17-15, after the first quarter.
Sacred Heart made it a 13-point lead by halftime with an 18-7 second-quarter scoring advantage. Sacred Heart led the scoring 12-11 in the third quarter.
Both teams scored 15 points in the fourth quarter.
Jacob Saathoff led Sterling in scoring with 13 points, followed by Zach Lempka with 11.
Sacred Heart’s leading scorers were Caleb Pokorny with 22 points and Bryce Ebel with 15.
Even with the loss, Motz said the Jets had a good season.
“Overall, it was a good year,” Motz said.
Motz said the team won 14 games and with many of their players coming back, the future looks good.
Sterling finishes its season at 14-8.
