Sterling at SE Consolidated (Friday, Feb 8, 2008)

Sterling girls defeated SE Consolidated 59 – 22 at Stella, Friday evening.

Sterling jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter 27-2.  The Lady Jets forced 37 turnovers, for the game, with some full court pressure which turned into easy transition baskets or fouls which led to Lady Jet free-throws.  During the first quarter Sterling Made 7 out of 10 free-throws and 4 out of 9 three point attempts.  Kala Weber had 6 steals and 14 points in the first quarter.  The second quarter was much of the same with good pressure and good ball movement the Lady Jets went on to put up their largest total for a half with the score 45 – 8 at halftime.  A.J. Magill made 3 out of 5 three point shots in the first half.  The second half many of the Lady Jets received some playing time.   Nine of the 13 girls suited up scored some points.  Coach Cockerill said, “I expected the girls to maintain a high level going into this game.  It is a game where we could have had a little let down, but the young ladies did no such thing, the intensity was great the first half.”   Kala Weber led all scoring with 20 points, plus she had a team high 10 steals.  Other high scorers for the Lady Jets were Courtney VanGroningen with 11 and A.J. Magill with 9 points.  SE Consolidated was led by Debra Grossman with 8 points.

Sterling plays Parkview Christian in the first round of Sub-Districts on Tuesday, Feb. 12th.  The game will be held at J.C.C in Cook at 7:45.  If they get by that game the Sub-District Final will be Thursday, Feb. 14th in Cook starting at 7:00 p.m.
