Sidney, Iowa at Sterling (Saturday, Jan 5, 2008)

Sterling girls defeated Sidney, Iowa girls 48 – 31.  This game was paced by the referees.  Combined both teams shot 64 free-throws.  Sterling forced Sidney into 23 turnovers for the game.  That turned out to be one of the keys to the game.  Sidney had a first quarter lead of 10-9 before Sterling outscored Sidney 13-7 in the second.  Ten of those points came off of free-throws.  The second half we started limiting their second chance shots.  McKenzie McAuliffe had 6 defensive rebounds and Stephanie Heusman added 4.  The pressure defense eventually was too much for the young Sidney team who started two freshman.  Kala Weber and McKenzie McAuliffe had 5 and 3 steal respectively.  Scoring for the Lady Jets was led by Kala Weber’s 24 points on 12 of 16 made free-throws.

Sidney was led by Mandie UhlenKamp’s 7 points.  Sterling plays Monday January 7th in the first round of the MUDECAS Tournament.  The game is against Pawnee City at 3:30
