December 18, 2007

By John Cockerill

December 19, 2007

Sterling High School at Johnson-Brock

Sterling went to Johnson Tuesday evening and came away with a nice victory 50-45.  Sterling’s victory came down to rebounding and execution.  Coach Cockerill was very impressed with his Lady Jet’s ability to hold Johnson-Brock to one shot.  The game was very close during the first half with each team going on little 6-7 point runs.  By halftime, the score was 18-15 in Sterling’s favor.  The third quarter the Lady Jets stretched their lead to 7 on some good shooting by Courtney VanGroningen.  The fourth quarter Johnson-Brock made a run led by Jordan Broady’s 3 three-point baskets.  Fortunately, Sterling made enough free-throw to hold on.  Coach Cockerill was quoted as saying, “Tonight our balanced scoring and rebounding were the keys to the game.”

Kala Weber paced the Lady Jets with 16 points along with Courtney VanGroningen’s 13 points and McKenzie McAuliffe’s 12 points.  Kaylee Agena added 12 rebounds.  Jordan Broady and Dawn Kite scored 21 and 13 points respectively to lead Johnson-Brock.  Sterling plays in the Parkview Holiday Tournament.
