JOHNSON-BROCK RALLIES PAST JETS

Sterling closed a second half gap to one point, but couldn’t rally, as the Jets lost 55-50 Tuesday night to Johnson-Brock at Johnson.

The Jets trailed 47-46 with under two minutes to play, but the Eagles’ Tyler Durant-Allen sank a big three point shot to push the lead to four points.  On Johnson-Brock’s next possession, Tyler Bohling hit a 17-footer to push the lead to 52-46.

“It was a big momentum turn in that small stretch” said Sterling head coach Jimmy Motz.  “We had some chances, we didn’t convert.  That’s basketball.”

Johnson-Brock jumped out to a 19-5 lead midway through the first half.  In the last six minutes of the first half, Sterling answered on a 20-4 run to take a 25-23 lead into half.  The Jets received a spark from their bench, provided by Kyle Lowmack and Jacob Wirthele.

Lowmack came off the bench and drained two threes and Wirthele sparked the Jets defense and scored five points.

“Kyle and Jacob got us back in the game.  The nice thing about this team is that we’ve had different guys step up different nights.  Those two did some things to put us in position to try to win.”

Sterling closed the gap at the end of the third quarter at 40-39 when Zach Lempka was fouled and converted a three-point play with no time left in the quarter.  Lempka ended the game with 14 points and 12 rebounds.  It was his third consecutive game with a double-double.

Jake Saathoff led the Jets with 15 points for the contest.  Lowmack ended the game with 9 points, 3 for 3 from beyond the arc.

“Johnson is a very good basketball team.  I thought their height and athleticism might present a problem, but we handled it very well.  I’m proud of the kids and the way they fought and scrapped.  The main thing is we are getting better as a team and hopefully take that next step.”

The Eagles were led by Graham Butler’s 13 points.
