Sterling Lady Jets VS Diller Odell

Friday, December 7, 2007

By John Cockerill

December 12, 2007

Diller/Odell at Sterling (Friday, Dec 7th)

Diller/Odell girls defeated Sterling girls 53 – 45.  The game was filled with turnovers and fouls by both teams.  Diller/Odell jumped out to a first quarter lead of 12-9 off of some good full court presses that allowed them to get a couple of steals and quick lay-ups.  Sterling switched up their defense and had a nice second quarter outscoring the Lady Griffins 14-7, to take a halftime lead of 23-19.  The third quarter was played evenly and then in the final quarter Diller/Odell scored 23 points to close out the game.  Diller/Odell's defense forced 36 turnovers by the Lady Jets.  Coach Cockerill stated, “Our team needs to go back to the basic ball handling drills. When you have 36 turnovers as a team it is hard to win any game.”

Kala Weber paced the Lady Jets with 20 points, 11 steals and 6 rebounds, while Willow Hunt added 7 points and Kaylee Agena and McKenzie McAuliffe had 9 and 7 rebounds respectively.

Diller/Odell was led in scoring by Emily Hroch with 15 and Morgan Vitosh with 7 points.

Sterling will host Pawnee City this Friday and then travel to Bruning Davenport on Saturday.
